Re: Restonic

October 28, 2009

> Anyone have any input on these beds?

Restonic is an independent mattress company with retail outlets and factories across the country. Founded in 1938 they have received Consumer Digest Best Buy nods on 6 occasions. They are headquartered in Buffalo New York.

They have a pretty slick website at: http://www.restonic.com

As with ALL mattress companies, there are good beds and those that are not so good. Same is true for Restonic.

In your case there a couple of interesting points:

1) A 100% latex bed should have been great for your back. It sounds like something may have been up with that…but not knowing the situation it’s tough to say. But generally speaking, latex kicks some serious butt.

2) Your weight is light…even though it’s normal for pillow top mattresses to show body impressions, for your case, it was very fast. If you don’t want body impressions so quickly then a bed without a big slab of extra padding that can matte down on top would likely be a good idea…perhaps a plush or even a luxury firm may be the ticket for you.

If you live in the Los Angeles area of California, Dreamland Mattress in Covina can get you a Stresso-pedic mattress of whatever type you like.

I’m always happy to answer any type of mattress inquiry. I have 30 years experience in the industry.

Unfortunately what is also true is that due to internal issues Simmons USA filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, and were unable to pay the note in the spring and were extended to June. When June came and Simmons was unable to pay the note again, the company was threatened with complete closure.

Fortunately for Simmons, one of the brands carried by Dreamland Discount Mattress, Serta, came to the rescue by purchasing Simmons and thus saving the brand from total extinction.

The side benefit is the ability of Serta to make use of various technologies that were once the exclusive domain of Simmons. At Dreamland we have numerous mattresses that utilize the pocketed coil technology made famous by Simmons Beautyrest.

Pocketed coils that conform to your body providing the type of support unavailable from other brands like Sealy and Stearns & Foster. No roll together and minimum motion transfer are a couple of benefits of this type of coil.

I think that the BEST benefit of pocketed coil spring units are their unique ability to mold to the body based on the size and shape of the body. It molds to the exact form of whomever is laying on it regardless of weight, height, or shape.

Re: Stressopedic @ bedding-chatter.com

Wow…someone has an axe to grind…

I’m not saying that the guy above doesn’t have a reason to gripe. I don’t even know the situation. But I own a store in Covina California called Dreamland Mattress and Stresso is one of the brands I carry and have carried for years.

Stressopedic is in Ontario California, the have a website, with a phone number and an address:

http://www.stressopedic.com/

Stress-O-Pedic Mattress Company
2060 South Wineville Ave.
Ontario, California 91761
(909) 605-2010

I have been to the factory literally a hundred times in the past years to will call products. For an independent it is a big factory…bigger than Spring Airs former factory in Baldwin Park Ca, and rivaling both Sealys Southgate factory and the Simmons factory in Rancho Santa Dominguez, which is actually Compton Ca.

They have no Mexico plant (That I know of anyway)…they don’t even do rebuilt mattresses and in my 30 years of retailing mattresses I’ve never heard anyone even suggest that they did.

The bottom line is this…

Every company, even independents, make some great mattresses and every name brand makes some crap. That’s undeniable low end Simmons and Sealy are crap and high end Stresso and Diamond and Leader and whoever are good.

You basically get what you pay for.

What independents (including Stresso and a zillion other guys you’ve never heard of) have going for them is they do not pay co-op advertising money to their vendors the way that name brands do. That allows their product to sell for less. Bottom line.

Is Stresso a good product. I have had very few problems with them over the years. I have had more trouble with Spring Air before they went out of business. (By the way a company called Englander based back east has bought the Spring Air name so it is likely we will see the name show up again. Simmons in the 1980’s had one of the worst return rates in the industry, but now they have one of the lowest. Being a name brand is no guarantee the bed will be great, and being a Stessopedic is no guarantee the bed will be no good.

That’s just my 2 cents worth…   =)
